(Nee Loomis) Of Milwaukee passed away July 6, 2018 at the age of 94 years, surrounded by her loving children and caregivers. Nancy is survived by her children Brian, Claudia (Steve Brachman), Paul, Mark (Kitty), and Carol Kennedy (Mark); and by 10 grandchildren, Micah, Genevieve, Emily, Megan, Jonathan, David, Jessica, Lawrence, Michael, and Colin. Nancy was fortunate to meet 4 great-grandchildren with a fifth one on the way.
She was born November 8, 1923 in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Arthur and Genevieve Loomis. She graduated from UW-Madison, where she met and soon married her lifelong partner, Karl W. Backus. Nancy raised five children and obtained a Masters degree from UW Milwaukee prior to embarking on a 17 year career with Children’s Hospital as a child psychologist. Many children from less fortunate circumstances benefited from Nancy’s loving care and professional abilities. After retiring, Nancy and Karl spend the winter months in Sarasota, FL where their children and grandchildren spent many wonderful hours playing in the pool and racing through the Siesta Key surf.
Memorial contributions in honor of her work with children may be made to the Texas Civil Rights Project, (Attn: Development Dept., 1405 Montopolis Drive, Austin TX 78741), an organization working to reunite children with their parents in Texas and beyond or a children’s charity of your choice.
