Our beloved Sharada Raja passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 29, 2021. Age 86. Loving wife of the late Dr. Chandrasekhar Raja for 27 years. Devoted mother of Sharath, Kanthi, and Prabha. Proud grandmother of Ajay Sridhar, Sahitya Raja, Suhas Raja, Asha Rollins, Owen Rollins, and Kiran Rollins. Daughter of Juturu Jamuna and Gopalakrishnan. Sister of Gopal, Bala, Anantha, Srinivas, and Vijaylakshmi.

Sharada was born in Madras (Chennai), India in 1934 and spent her childhood and early adulthood in her beloved Madras, working as a lecturer in the Chemistry Department at Ethiraj College prior to her marriage to Dr. Chandrasekhar Raja. She was also a distinguished vocal musician, specializing in Carnatic music. Prior to her marriage, she earned a gold medal for her vocal performances at the music festival held at the prestigious Madras Music Academy.
She emigrated to the US in 1968 and was active in the Indian community in Milwaukee for many years. She loved planning baby showers, picnics, and events celebrating Indian holidays. Sharada was an active early participant in the Holiday Folk Fair, India Cultural Society and India Religious Center. Her love of music also continued through her time in Milwaukee via her role as a founding member of the India Music Society in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her family and the vast circle of friends whose lives she touched remember and will miss her dearly. She will live in their hearts for eternity.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, WI from 2 PM until 4 PM. Per the family’s request, please wear masks.
